Here's a new thread for discussing H4M1, because the old one only existed in the first HPack forum.

Here's one. If you push a fire gasbag into the teleporter from the lava, you may then kiss your ass goodbye.

Just played through this map, and I have a few small issues.

  • It's a little too hectic at the start. Two sabreclaws and a few gargoyles in the first room or two of the episode, and you have to wake up several more gargoyles and some nitrogolems to get a weapon capable of killing them.
  • How is anyone expected to find the path to the yellow key? I jumped over there assuming it was a secret, since it was quite out of the way.
  • There isn't enough ammo. Even though I hit with every shot I could (with a slow-projectile-fast-rate-of-fire weapon, no less, which is risky to be accurate with), I still ran out around the yellow key trap.
  • While I like the design of the room and the placement of the yellow keygizmo, it looks odd when you lower the elevator: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8870 ... 201101.png
  • Not enough wand ammo. I used it to kill gargoyles, and ran out mid-way through.
  • Can you add some more raised stones, in the path to the red key? I don't like being forced to take damage to continue the level like that, on a map that doesn't have a lot of health pickups (I had 32 health left, and I was lucky I didn't burn up).

Otherwise, I love the design.

Ditto. Rebalancing needed!

Other things:
- the switch to reveal the red key is too hard to see and easy to miss.
- the red disciple hiding in the lava-tunnel secret near the start is too deadly and the player can't do much.

Just tried this map again, and still has some of the same issues I mentioned above (especially the key gizmo one).

Oops, I'll fix those things... haven't touched this map in awhile and there are other minor changes to be made as well....

We need to decide on a consistant style of exit portal / entrance area per episode imho! I think one episode for example should use the HeXen style portals, but with thr bright red wavy magic HeXen 2 water I use in this map behind it. Maybe this will be that episode....

What happened to the music?! I really liked that D_E3M3 variant and it really pumped me for hell. Now it merely plays the tame MUS_E2M1!

I changed it, because in 'DOS-Midi sounding mode' it sounded jarbled, but I can easily change it back!

I'm only using DOS-Midi mode if I'm playing vanilla (or possibly Chocolate) Doom! I never use it for ZDoom or GZDoom -- they're too advanced and it doesn't fit.
