Travelling to the Moon

Tormentor667

travelmoonA few days ago, The Trigger released his boom-compatible single map wad Travelling to the moon as an first release candidate to the masses and boy, it's fantastic. For a boom compatible map the visuals are simply fantastic and the map itself plays very well. It was designed in about 5 months (maybe a bit more) and it is a rather large map (it was intended to be short/medium at first though). It is a map I made as a breather from his "Fortress of Misery" map and well, let's just say that it took the forground rather quickly. Get the file and make sure to load the CC4-Texture pack alongside so everything looks just the way it was intended to look.

Romero playing E1M8B

Some months ago, the legend himself John Romero released his own vision of E1M8 to the community, after more than 20 years not even touching the original Doom. That was a blast, wasn't it? Recently he released a video of him playing the map itself and commenting about…

Oblige is better than me

The random level generator Oblige has been updated to a new version bringing it up to 7.50 now. After trying it myself last night I have to admit that automatic mapping has come a long way now. The maps the program generates feel very organic and playing them is really…

About Brutal Doom and the hate

I actually never ever wanted to write an article about Brutal Doom here on the Realm667 and though I feel like having to make things clear now after people have asking me a million times "why I dislike about the project". Next to that I had a short discussion with SGtMarkIV…

Alpha + Beta = Delta

Just spotted something over at ZDoom that made my retro-heart bump: Doom Delta, a mod that DrPyspy is working on that combines the elements from the alpha, beta, and pre-release versions of Doom that he finds the most interesting. It is still a work in progress,…

8bit - no more!

How would I have loved it when ZDoom had been able to display full 32bit colors in software mode when I first developed Torment & Torture in the early 2000's. Finally, after almost 16 years, the programmers dpjudas and Eruanna did something about it and released QZDoom…

The Green Arrow

The Green Arrow

Even though this is not Doom-related, it's at least a brilliant mod for Doom's predecessor which deserves being mentioned at least for the sheer quality and amount of work that has been put into it: The Green Arrow is a mod by Team Raycast for Wolfenstein 3D - yes, the…

Realm667 is back on track

This is what happens if I update the forum system to the new core: It breaks everything and I have to redesign the whole page. Well, it's not that bad but actually a lot of things went wrong while updating Kunena to 5.0 and I noticed that the main template for the whole…
