Kunena 4

Tormentor667

kunena4Just in case people are wondering: The forums have been upgraded to the latest version of Kunena (the messageboard system we are using here). Many things aren't up to date yet in terms of visuals but I will take care of them in the next few weeks as soon as my shedule is getting better. Meanwhile feel free to use it, it works fine, just doesn't look perfect yet.

Will this result in us finally getting the PM system back at some point? Because getting it back would be quite nice. The chat system just doesn't do the same thing (or much of anything considering how few people are online simultaneously).

I've read the release notes for 4.0 and above; I didn't see any thing related to a PM system.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, I think there was a specific package that needed to be added to the forum software to enable a PM system. I was hoping that if work was already being done to the site to facilitate the migration, then perhaps installing a PM system could be part of the process.

If this is doable, but it requires a couple people to make a trip to the "PayPal" button, then let us know! ;)

Hey, so I just noticed that the default behavior for PMs is to NOT send an email notification when receiving one. Does that seem like desirable default behavior? I sent a PM to someone last night, but it's not someone who regularly visits the site anymore, so he may not find out he's got a PM unless I go over to ZDoom.org and send him a PM there letting him know he's got a PM here.

It appears that there is a system where if a message remained unread for a certain period of time (currently set to 75 days), an e-mail notification would be sent out, regardless of the user's setting of the e-mail notification option.

Anyway, you bring up a good point, and I don't mind it being changed, personally.

Also, it looks like we'll have to implement some system to verify a user is not a bot or spammer before we allow them to send PMs. I've already received a couple of spam messages peddling watches in some sort of tongue-twisting Icelandic-looking language from 'users' who probably have not had their first posts verified to validate their identities are legit. (I guess this is what I get for asking for a PM system. :P )

As far as I can see, there is only a CAPTCHA system (currently disabled), but I don't think people would want to go through that each time they PM someone.

Doesn't ZDoom.org's forums prevent people from sending PMs unless they've had at least one "real" post? I remember running into that problem at one point since I mostly joined the forums just to lurk. I definitely don't think we should require a CAPTCHA every time someone wants to send a PM, but making sure they're "verified" first might work.

Also, judging from the size (and contents) of the user list, it looks like an awful lot of bots/spammers have joined up recently. So far I've only just gotten the 2 spam PMs, but if the potential for abuse is there, then the problem could get a lot worse in a hurry.

The ZDoom forums use a different forum software than we do. I could be missing something, but I don't believe we have that feature here.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. We're discussing the possibility of doing some user accounts cleanup.
