One thing I didn't notice is that the trail deals damage, and it's not just for show. That's neat.
Why does the 4th shot goes on a different angle?

The first 3 shots look well coordinated but the last one goes 7 grades to your right. Maybe you wanted to make a diamond shaped pattern like this?:
